Williams pleads guilty in 2012 shooting death


YOUNGSTOWN — A Kimmel Street man pleaded guilty this morning to a voluntary manslaughter charge for the Nov. 20, 2012 shooting death of Oneil Williams, 28, in an Atkinson Avenue home.

Jamel Smith, 22, entered his pleas before Judge Maureen Sweeney in Mahoning County Common Pleas Court.

He also entered a guilty plea to a charge of being a felon in possession of a firearm and a firearm specification and a charge of felonious assault in an unrelated 2011 case.

Prosecutors are recommending a sentence of 17 years.
