MINERAL RIDGE

The Mineral Ridge High School marching band will host its 14th annual Show of Bands at 7 p.m. Sept. 6 at the Joe Lane Sports Complex, 3750 Main St.

The event will feature marching bands from Girard, Niles, Jackson-Milton, Sebring and Springfield and a closing performance by Mineral Ridge.

Tickets are $6 for adults, $4 for students and senior citizens, and children under 5 enter for free.

The Mineral Ridge High School marching band includes 75 students in grades nine through 12. Some eighth-grade students march in band by invitation only. The band will make its 29th appearance at the Niles McKinley Band Night on Sept. 3 and will perform at Girard Band Night on Sept. 9.

Duck Derby to benefit Someplace Safe

CORTLAND

Someplace Safe, Trumbull County’s domestic-violence shelter, will have its fourth annual Duck Derby at 2 p.m. Sept. 6 at Lake Vista, 303 N. Mecca St., Cortland.

The event is a fundraiser that features children’s activities, face painting and food vendors. The duck race begins at 2 p.m.

Bonnie Wilson, Someplace Safe director, said this year’s event is important because of reductions in funding the agency has received.

Library fundraiser

POLAND

The Citizens Committee for the Library Levy has announced a change in the date for its Library Luau at the Lake Club.

The luau is set for Oct. 16, Lake Club, 1140 Paulin Road, Poland. The Library Luau at the Lake Club is a fundraiser in support of the committee’s efforts to promote passage of the levy that will appear on the Nov. 4 ballot in Mahoning County.

No injuries in house fire

HUBBARD

Firefighters responded to 7155 Pine Grove Drive in Hubbard Township for a house fire at 9:53 p.m. Sunday.

The Hubbard Fire District and Brookfield Fire Department responded to the fire. It was under control by 11 p.m., and no injuries were reported.
