Jury-duty scam

YOUNGSTOWN

Mahoning County Sheriff Jerry Greene is warning of a scam involving jury duty.

Greene said he has received calls from several residents Thursday and Friday claiming that they have been called by people identifying themselves as Greene and telling them they missed their appointments to serve as jurors and they have to pay a $1,000 fine.

The callers then try to get credit card or other financial information from the people, Greene said.

Greene said he asked a woman who was called to return the call, but when Greene took the phone, the person on the other end of the line hung up. He said when he called the number again, a message said it was disconnected.

Greene stressed to the public: Do not give personal information over the phone, and if you receive a call, notify police or his office.

Hit-and-run

YOUNGSTOWN

Police are looking for help in finding out how a 38-year-old Canfield man ended up in the middle of the 3300 block of Decamp Avenue about 11:50 p.m. Thursday.

Patrolman Brian Booksing of the department’s accident investigation unit said officers think the man may have been hit by a car. They are looking for a 2001 or 2002 Dodge Stratus or Sebring.

Booksing said the side-view mirror of that model car was found near the man, who is in intensive care at St. Elizabeth Health Center, where he is being treated for his injuries.

Booksing did not release the man’s name because his family has yet to be notified.

Anyone with information is asked to call Booksing at 330-742-8775.
