Home for Good program gets donation of computers

ACTION’s Home for Good Re-entry Resource Referral Center received a donation of two complete computer systems that have been installed.

The systems were provided to the Alliance for Congregational Transformation Influencing Our Neighborhoods by the Community Initiative to Reduce Violence out of Mayor A. John McNally’s office. Guy Burney directs the C.I.R.V.

Home for Good opened its office at the new ACTION site, 20 Federal Place, Suite M-8, downtown Youngstown, in November 2013. Its mission is to assist formerly incarcerated individuals, through a coordinated effort, in re-establishing their lives and improving their ability to make productive contributions to society.

Having Internet accessibility will make it more convenient for clients to apply for resources that are available either exclusively through or more expeditiously through the Internet, Home for Good officials said.

Home for Good began as a vision of ACTION, whose executive director is Elder Rosetta Carter.

Home for Good offers a network of resources that will provide access to necessary and appropriate community assets to formerly incarcerated individuals.

These include purpose-filled programming, mental health/drug and alcohol counseling, education, job training, business development assistance, financial planning assistance, housing, transportation, food, medical, clothing and other basic necessities.

Lola Simmons is executive director of the Home for Good Resource Re-entry Referral Center, which is open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesdays and Wednesdays and 1 to 5 p.m. Thursdays. Appointments can be made by calling Sheaness Miller, administrative assistant, at 330-743-3700. Walk-ins are accepted during any of these hours.

In May, Home for Good partnered with other agencies, businesses and organizations to sponsor a Hope Conference. Another event is being planned.
