POLICE CALLS

A summary of recent criminal activity in Hubbard, Liberty and Girard:

HUBBARD

Aug. 8

Arrest: Police at the Mahoning County jail picked up 34-year-old Savaughn L. Jones of Lora Avenue, Hubbard, who was wanted on a warrant accusing him of failing to appear in court on a driving-under-suspension charge.

Assault: A Phoenix man alleged a Hubbard man, 34, pushed him during a slight altercation between them at a North Main Street caf .

Theft: A $300 iPad device was taken from a residence in the 500 block of Meadowland Drive.

Theft/damage: Someone removed a $6,845 heating and air system from a home in the 900 block of Waugh Drive. Also, portions of a ceiling, walls and floors sustained water damage.

Recovered property: A woman walking on West Liberty Street found a $40 video game on the sidewalk.

Aug. 10

Arrest: Authorities charged 51-year-old Benjamin F. Porter III of Logan Avenue, Sharon, Pa., with carrying a concealed weapon, failure to comply with police, driving under suspension and having an open container of alcohol in a motor vehicle after apprehending him in the 2500 block of North Main Street. Porter had led officers on foot and vehicle pursuits; he also had a folding knife and an open can of beer in his car, a report showed.

Harassment: A Hubbard woman said her former boyfriend has left and sent such voicemail and text messages.

LIBERTY

Aug. 7

Arrest: Officers took into custody 28-year-old Megan Thompson at a Hadley Avenue residence. Thompson, of state Route 7, Burghill, was wanted on two outstanding warrants.

Weapon/drugs: Authorities were sent to the 200 block of Goldie Road regarding a wanted person before they charged Raylin L. Blunt, 36, of Summer Street, Youngstown, with one felony count each of carrying a concealed weapon, being a convicted felon with a firearm and improperly handling a firearm in a motor vehicle after saying a loaded 9 mm handgun was found. Also arrested was Milton C. Glenn, 36, of Idlewood Avenue, Youngstown, on charges of obstructing official business and possession of criminal tools, cocaine and dangerous drugs. Glenn had a bag of suspected cocaine and two pills in his pocket, including Acetaminophen, an analgesic drug often used to treat headaches, arthritis and other ailments, a report said.

Theft: Elijah J. Taylor, 34, of Mistletoe Avenue, Youngstown, faced charges of theft and possession of criminal tools after $305 worth of merchandise was stolen from Walmart, 200 Goldie Road. Taylor also had a pair of pliers and a backpack for the stolen goods, police said.

Theft: Someone stole three air-conditioning units from the roof of a business in the 2700 block of Belmont Avenue. The theft came to $25,000.

Theft/vandalism: Tenants who had been evicted from a residence in the 500 block of East Montrose Avenue reportedly stole a chandelier and a truck ramp, and did $30,000 in damage to the home. Damage included numerous holes in the walls, stained carpeting and broken door locks.

Drug paraphernalia: A traffic stop near Goldie Road led to a charge of possession of drug paraphernalia against 32-year-old John W. Griffiths after police alleged Griffiths, of Overbrook Avenue, Youngstown, had a spoon with suspected heroin residue.

Arrest: Robert J. Hanni, 28, of South Lakeview Avenue, Youngstown, was taken into custody after having been pulled over in the 2700 block of Belmont Avenue. Hanni was wanted on a Youngstown warrant charging failure to appear in court.

Arrest: Authorities arrested 49-year-old Herbert J. Harley in downtown Youngstown. Harley, of Shannon Road, Girard, was wanted on an outstanding township warrant.

Theft: Janet L. Ours, 52, of Keefer Road, Girard, was charged with stealing $298 worth of merchandise from Giant Eagle, 4700 Belmont Ave.

Theft: A Cleveland man discovered his wallet missing from his car, possibly while in the 1600 block of Hazelwood Drive.

Aug. 8

Arrest: Niles police apprehended 25-year-old Justin P. Saban of Roosevelt Avenue, Niles, who was wanted on a Girard Municipal court warrant charging him with a probation violation related to a drug-possession charge.

Arrest: Suzanne R. Ginty of Pinecrest Road, Girard, was charged with operating a vehicle impaired after police stopped her in the 3200 block of Belmont Avenue. The 46-year-old Ginty had a blood-alcohol count of 0.317, nearly four times the legal limit, a report showed.

Aug. 9

Arrest: Lenzell D. Crum of Palmer Avenue, Youngstown, was picked up in the 2700 block of Belmont Avenue on a Youngstown warrant. He was accused of failing to appear in court.

Domestic violence: Michael L. Maybee, 44, of Trails Edge Drive, Hubbard, was charged with the crime after his wife alleged Maybee had grabbed her throat and left arm during a heated argument.

Pursuit: A motorcyclist led police on a pursuit after they pulled over the driver on Belmont Avenue for having made an improper turn.

Indecency: A woman told officers a man in the 4700 block of Belmont Avenue exposed himself in a parking lot before leaving in a white Pontiac Grand Prix vehicle.

Aug. 11

Arrest: Anthony J. Cleveland, 23, of Colonial Drive, Youngstown, was taken into custody on a warrant charging unauthorized use of a motor vehicle and obstructing official business.

Arrest: James T. Hooks, 31, of Alameda Avenue, Youngstown, was booked at the Mahoning County jail on an outstanding township warrant.

Theft: A man stole a $500 computer from Walmart.

Menacing: A Breeze Knoll Drive man reported a caller threatened to kill him and his family.

Theft: An iPhone, assorted jewelry and a radio transmitter were removed from a car in the 400 block of Catherine Street.

Aug. 12

Harassment: A Potters Circle woman reported her estranged son sent her several unwanted text messages that were derogatory in nature and contained implied threats.

Theft: An East Liberty Street man told police he gave another man $114 to repair a lawn mower before finding out that the man neither performed the work nor refunded the accuser.

Theft: Two checkbooks were missing from a vehicle in the 400 block of Ravine Drive.

GIRARD

Aug. 10

Criminal mischief: Someone deliberately broke an outdoor vase at a residence in the 200 block of South Davis Street.

Possible arson: Police and firefighters responded to a trash-bin fire in the 30 block of West Main Street, where a witness reported having seen two suspicious males and a female climbing on the receptacle. The cause of the fire was under investigation.

Aug. 11

Aggravated menacing: A man told officers that while sitting on the front porch to a residence in the 200 block of East Wilson Avenue, another man walking by challenged him to a fight, then threatened to kill the accuser and another person.

Criminal mischief: A man reportedly damaged a front window to a home in the 80 block of Smithsonian Street, apparently in retaliation as part of an ongoing custody battle.

Identity fraud: A Shawnee Drive woman reported two callers claiming to be selling an anti-virus protection package installed various programs on her computer that, after a Google search, she discovered were part of a scam.

Aug. 12

Arrest: Authorities charged James Snowden of Church Hill Road, Girard, with abusing a harmful intoxicant, criminal trespassing and disorderly conduct, all misdemeanors, after an officer alleged having seen the 29-year-old Snowden inhaling from a can of an aerosol furniture polish. Beforehand, Snowden returned to Rite Aid Pharmacy, 713 N. State St., despite an employee’s having told him to leave, a report stated.

Aug. 13

Attempted burglary: A man told authorities that as he returned to his South Randolph Street apartment, he saw someone trying to break in through a front window. The man confronted then chased the would-be burglar, who left in a black four-door vehicle.

Drugs: A traffic stop on U.S. Route 422 led to charges of drug abuse and possession of drug paraphernalia against Bradley S. Watson, 21, of Niles-Carver Road, Mineral Ridge, and MaCayla V. Westover, 18, of Zedaker Street, Youngstown. A bag of suspected marijuana and a suspected marijuana pipe were found, police said.
