NEOCC prison disturbance started over food, medical concerns

YOUNGSTOWN — The 14-hour sit-in at the Northeast Ohio Correctional Center started because of issues with food and medical concerns, according to Youngstown Mayor John McNally.

Several representatives from the city met today with employees from Corrections Corporation of America to go over the incident and make sure the city receives the notification that it is supposed to get under the term of the contract the prison has with the city.

The sit-in started around 2 p.m. Tuesday and concluded around 4 a.m. Wednesday. The entire situation was resolved without violence.
