Man indicted for May homicide

YOUNGSTOWN

A Mahoning County grand jury Thursday indicted a Tod Lane man in the death of a Campbell man in May.

Wesley J. Blackshear, 42, faces charges of aggravated murder, two counts of aggravated robbery and being a felon in possession of a firearm.

All of the charges carry a specification a firearm was used in the commission of the crimes.

Blackshear is accused of killing Brenden Moorer, 34, of Robinson Road in Campbell, on the North Side on May 24.

Police said Moorer was in the passenger seat of a car that drove to Tod Lane and picked up a man, who was Blackshear, for a drug sale and at some point Blackshear shot Moorer, got out of the car, and ran away.

Police said Moorer and Blackshear knew each other.

The driver of the car panicked and drove to a McGuffey Road gas station more than 1.5 miles away, which is where police were called just before midnight. When they got there Moorer was dead.

The indictment shows that Blackshear had a past conviction in common pleas court for aggravated robbery in 2000, and because of the conviction he is not allowed to have a firearm. The indictment said he had a .40-caliber Glock semiautomatic pistol the night Moorer was shot.

Jail records show that Blackshear is not in custody.
