POLICE CALLS
A summary of recent criminal activity in Poland and Boardman townships:
POLAND
Aug. 3
Trespassing: Officers received a complaint that someone had trespassed on property in the 6700 block of New Castle Road.
Aug. 4
Arrest: Police arrested 47-year-old Spiro L. Frangos at his Kennedy Road residence. The Poland man was wanted on a Struthers Municipal Court warrant.
Aug. 7
Criminal damaging: A driveway in the 6100 block of Acatello Place sustained $1,000 in damage.
BOARDMAN
Aug. 7
Arrest: Authorities booked 45-year-old Kenneth A. Sakely of Cobblers Run Drive, Poland, on a charge of operating a vehicle impaired after having pulled him over in the 900 block of East Midlothian Boulevard.
Misuse of a credit card: Two men reportedly used a stolen credit card to buy a $650 gift card at Walmart, 1300 Doral Drive. The crime apparently was part of a pattern in which they had used stolen cards in a similar manner at Walmart locations along the East Coast, a police report showed.
Theft: A 16-year-old New Springfield boy was accused of stealing a $27 pocket knife from Walmart.
Theft: A man stole an $80 Xbox controller from Walmart.
Theft/criminal damaging: A vehicle in the 4300 block of Lake Park Road was found with exterior damage. Also, a toolbox and miscellaneous tools were missing.
Identity theft: A Struthers woman found out that someone had opened accounts with Ohio Edison Co. using her personal information at four addresses, including two on South Schenley Avenue.
Theft/drugs: Jason E. Deckant, 31, of New Buffalo Road, North Lima, faced charges of theft and possession of drug-abuse instruments after a $20 pair of shoes was stolen from Walmart. Deckant also had a hypodermic needle in his waistband, police said.
Aug. 8
Burglary: To a residence in the 1300 block of Red Tail Hawk Drive, from which a blender and a food processer were removed.
Criminal damaging: Someone in the 4000 block of Hillman Way slashed three of a vehicle’s tires.
Theft: Robert M. Sudimak, 47, of Market Street, Boardman, was charged in the theft of two plumbing fixtures from Home Depot, 7001 Southern Blvd.
Identity theft: An Amberwood Trail man learned that his personal information had been used without consent to open a checking account at an Akron bank. He also had an outstanding $99 balance.
Theft: Youngstown police relinquished custody of James J. Sheets, 28, of Midland Avenue, Youngstown, and Christy N. Rohn, 22, of Baymar Drive, Youngstown, who faced charges of theft and complicity to theft, respectively. They were accused in a July 25 shoplifting incident in which $367.50 worth of groceries was stolen from Giant Eagle, 476 Boardman-Canfield Road.
Criminal damaging: A worker with a South Avenue long-term health-care facility noticed damage to his car’s license-plate bracket and bumper. The damage estimate was $500.
Theft: Kevin A. Clover of Tod Avenue Southwest, Warren, was arrested at the Mahoning County jail on a theft charge. Clover, 33, was accused of taking a cellphone during a shoplifting situation July 24 at Walmart.
Theft: A man reported several medications for his wife were missing from his bicycle after he had picked them up at a Southern Boulevard drug store.
Theft: Dim’elvin R. Johnson, 19, of East Judson Avenue, Youngstown, was charged with stealing a surround-sound system, an air mattress and several pairs of socks from Walmart.
Vehicle theft: A 2003 Chevrolet Astrovan was stolen in the 6700 block of Applewood Boulevard.
Identity theft: A Lisbon woman discovered her debit card had been used fraudulently at the Southern Park Mall to buy a $322 cellphone.
Theft: Police charged Kristin M. Nagy of Ellsworth Road, North Jackson, after accusing the 31-year-old woman of stealing a glucose meter, a drug-testing kit, test strips and a pair of women’s slippers from Walmart.
Identity theft: A Mansfield man realized that his debit card had been used without permission to make a $110 purchase at Home Depot.
Theft: The Ohio State Highway Patrol handed 57-year-old Michael Phillips to township authorities. Phillips, of Mistletoe Avenue, Youngstown, was wanted on a theft charge after being accused of stealing a 32-inch TV July 15 from Sears in the Southern Park Mall.
Aug. 9
Arrest: Police charged 54-year-old Charles J. Patton of Glenwood Avenue, Boardman, with disrupting public services, resisting arrest and disorderly conduct after alleging an agitated Patton had used the 911 system for nonemergency reasons. He also struggled with officers who requested to examine his cordless phone, they said.
Theft: Lauren J. Hanlon, 54, who listed addresses on Canfield Road, Youngstown, and Alburn Drive, Boardman, was taken into custody on a theft warrant after having been accused of stealing two cartons of cigarettes in a July 12 shoplifting situation at Giant Eagle, 476 Boardman-Canfield Road.
Criminal mischief: Someone used red chalk to write on a wall at a business in the 500 block of Boardman-Canfield Road.
Menacing: A township boy in the 400 block of Boardman-Poland Road told officers two males on bicycles threatened to harm him.
Theft: A Flagler Lane woman noticed that two checks had been removed from her checkbook and cashed without authorization for $370.
Theft: A woman reported a key ring stolen from a counter at a Boardman-Canfield Road store.
Robbery: Authorities arrested 54-year-old Lauren J. Hanlon and Stephen M. Hanlon at their Canfield Road residence on charges of robbery and complicity to robbery, respectively, after $13 worth of energy drinks was stolen from Family Dollar, 4028 South Ave., and when an employee alleged that Lauren Hanlon had punched her stomach and struggled with her. Stephen Hanlon also was charged with obstructing justice, a felony, when, police said, they saw Lauren Hanlon in the residence despite his claim she wasn’t home. Also taken into custody at the Youngstown home was 36-year-old Jason R. Henninger, who was wanted on a warrant charging theft.
Aug. 10
Aggravated menacing: A foreman with a Market Street auto-service business reported an irate man made a threat in which he implied he would shoot the foreman after becoming angered when the accuser apparently tested a car engine on Market.
Arrest: Officers answered a call pertaining to a possibly intoxicated man in the 800 block of Moyer Avenue, where Struthers police arrested Thomas J. Woods, 40, of Afton Avenue, Boardman, on charges of disorderly conduct while intoxicated, criminal trespassing and driving under suspension after a woman alleged Woods had kicked and damaged her window. Struthers authorities provided mutual aid because township police had been called to the 5400 block of Sheridan Road regarding a domestic disturbance and someone possibly trying to barricade himself in the residence, a report said.
Arrest: A vehicle check near Midlothian Boulevard led to 30-year-old Domonique M. Johnson’s arrest. Johnson, of Willis Avenue, Youngstown, was wanted on a Canfield warrant charging failure to appear in court.
Theft: A man left Steak ‘n’ Shake, 6786 Applewood Blvd., without paying his $24.33 food bill.
Theft: A Youngstown woman reported a $4,800 diamond ring stolen while at a business in the 900 block of Mathews Road.
Criminal damaging: Two cars in the 100 block of Alburn Drive were found with slashed tires and sugar in their gas tanks.
Domestic violence: Anthony S. Crone, 43, of Sheridan Road, Poland, faced a felony charge of obstructing official business and one misdemeanor count each of making domestic violence threats, resisting arrest and inducing panic after his wife alleged that an intoxicated Crone threatened several times to kill her, including suffocating her with a pillow, after she had told him she wanted a divorce. He also was uncooperative with police and threatened to return to the residence and retrieve firearms, a report stated.
Theft: Someone removed copper coils from three air-conditioning units in a Midlothian Boulevard discount store. The theft was estimated at $30,000.
