No injuries in two Youngstown house fires

YOUNGSTOWN

City fire crews battled two separate fires in different parts of town within an hour Thursday.

Crews were called just after 9 a.m. to a 324 E. Judson Ave. on the South Side and found a fire in a back bedroom when they arrived. The homeowner was out of town, fire investigator Capt. Alvin Ware said.

The cause is still under investigation but it is not suspicious, Ware said. Damage was contained to the bedroom where the fire started. A damage estimate is not available.

As crews were wrapping up that call, they were called to a 640 North Garland Ave. home on the East Side about 9:40 a.m., where a blaze started in an upstairs bedroom. Several people were inside, including a woman in a wheelchair and several dogs, but they all got out before firefighters arrived.

The cause of that fire is also under investigation, Ware said. A damage estimate is not available.

No one was injured in either blaze.
