Lakeview’s Kaylee Neumeister shot a 79 to earn the third-place medal and lead the Bulldogs to a first-place finish at the 11-team Bulldog Invitational on Wednesday at Tamer Win Golf & Country Club.
“I was very pleased with our play considering the conditions of the course,” Lakeview head coach Mike Turco said. “The course was really wet and played a lot longer than it normally does.”
The Bulldogs shot 341 overall, edging out Canfield (347) and Boardman (350). Individually, Boardman was led by Jacinta Pikunas, who shot a tournament-low 71.
Jenna Vivo added a 76 to earn the second-place medal.
“We weren’t out there to win,” Turco said of his Bulldogs. “This was a day on the course to get to know and develop relationship with other teams we see throughout the year.”
Neumeister had a different take on the victory.
“I think the win today was huge,” Neumeister said. “It shows the other local teams that we are here to compete and we also defended our home course today.”
Turco was not surprised by Neumeister’s performance.
“It’s nothing new from her,” Turco said. “She continues to impress and she continues to improve. I’m very proud of her.”
Neumeister was happy with her effort too.
“Overall, I thought it was good,” Neumeister said. “I left a couple of shots out there, but I kept it together most of the day. I thought my short game saved me.”
Ryan Rosenberger was right behind Neumeister, shooting an 80.
“I’m very proud of her,” Turco said. “Last week, we found a hitch in her swing and we worked on her chipping. When she came off the course today, I asked her, ‘How was your chipping?’ And she just smiled. I’m proud of the way she worked through the hardships this week.”
The Bulldogs received an 87 from Ashley Frasca and a 95 from Taylor Horn to round out their scoring.
Canfield’s Christina Cooper shot a 79 to lead the way for the Cardinals.
Columbiana (375) finished fourth and Cardinal Mooney (399) placed sixth. Beaver Local (435) finished ninth.
