Historical society to honor Fulena

NEW CASTLE, PA.

Lawrence County Historical Society invites the community to its Annual Members and Friends Dinner at 6 p.m. Sept. 13 at the historic Cascade Dance Pavilion, 1928 E. Washington St.

Advance tickets are available for $25. The Farone Brothers will cater the dinner. For information call the historical society at 724-658-4022.

Stephanie Fulena, the honoree, has been working with the historical society for more than 25 years. As a teacher at Union Area Middle/High School, she and Beverly Zona developed programs for her gifted students on local architecture and other historical subjects.

Fulena has been the Lawrence County Trivia adviser since it began in the 1980s. As Union Key Club Adviser, she also began the tradition of having Union students decorate the Greer-Clavelli Mansion for the Christmas season.

Fulena became a member of the board of directors of the historical society in 2002. Since then, she has written and published the society’s newsletter, served as director for the group’s monthly educational programs, curated the Fireworks Room and served as a tour guide.
