Commissioners OK road closings for bridge repairs and painting

YOUNGSTOWN

The Mahoning County Commissioners voted this morning to close Bedell Road between Berlin Station and Leffingwell roads in Berlin Township for about 60 days beginning Monday for bridge repairs and painting.

The bridge crosses a branch of Berlin Reservoir near the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ Mill Creek Recreation Area.

It is one of six major Mahoning County bridges being painted and rehabilitated under a $2,026,000 contract the commissioners awarded in April to APBN Inc. of Campbell.

At the other end of the county, the commissioners also voted to close Calla Road between Springfield and Beard roads in Springfield Township on Monday and Tuesday for a culvert replacement.

The commissioners also bought two fully-equipped cargo vans for the dog warden’s office from Sweeney Chevrolet in Boardman for $43,550.

They also approved a $35,311 agreement with Boak & Sons Inc. of Austintown to replace the Campbell Wastewater Treatment Plant roof.
