Youngstown police make drug arrests

YOUNGSTOWN

Police made several drug arrests Tuesday.

About 12:33 p.m., vice squad officers on patrol noticed a group of people behind a 131 W. Commerce St. building downtown where they have been receiving complaints of people using drugs and drinking alcohol.

When police went to investigate they noticed Dominic Wash, 39, no address listed, smoking a marijuana cigar which he tried to hide. Officers searched those who were behind the building and found eight pills in the pocket of Rory Stephenson, 32, no address listed. He claimed the pills were his vitamins, but he was arrested on a charge of possession of dangerous drugs and taken to the Mahoning County jail.

Wash was given a citation for possession of marijuana and released.

About 1:40 p.m. vice officers also pulled over a car in the 100 block of West Willis Avenue for an improper turn driven by Izaiah Zandre Beacham, 19, no address listed. Reports said the officers smelled marijuana coming from inside the car and there was a marijuana cigar in the ashtray, but Beacham said he had nothing illegal inside the car.

When he was told he was under arrest for possession of marijuana and he got out of the car, he tried to put his hands in his pockets but was stopped, reports said. Inside Beacham’s pocket police found two doses of heroin. He was taken to the Mahoning County jail on charges of possession of marijuana and possession of heroin.

At 5:40 p.m. patrol officers pulled a car over at Glenwood and Sherwood avenues for not using a turn signal and could see a passenger inside, Marvin Kennedy, 57, no address listed, trying to hide something.

When police had Kennedy get out of the car, they found two doses of heroin in his hand he was trying to hide, reports said. He was arrested on a charge of possession of heroin and taken to the county jail.

The driver of the car, David Newell, 67, no address listed, was given a citation for not using a turn signal and released.
