AUSTINTOWN
Joe Saadey is no stranger to the restaurant world.
He has been at The Upstairs Restaurant in Austintown for more than 20 years.
Now he is operating Saadeys Place inside the Best Western on state Route 46.
“I would never ever have done this again, but it sort of fell in my lap,” he said.
Adorned in horse-race paintings done by Jean Saadey, Joe’s mother, the new restaurant, which opened July 14, offers interesting dishes such as the track-side burger that comes with mushrooms and jack cheese.
Saadey said the owners of the hotel, frequent customers at the Upstairs, made him an offer he couldn’t refuse.
“I opened up because of all the hotels around here,” Saadey said. “These hotels are very busy.”
While he hopes the soon-to-be open Hollywood Gaming at Mahoning Valley Race Course will help his business, he did not open the new restaurant directly because of the racino. He started construction on the new place in April and invested more than he thought he would to redo several areas including the kitchen.
The restaurant, at 870 N. Canfield-Niles Road, has seating for approximately 62 people.
The menu at Saadeys Place is completely different from The Upstairs, Saadey said. The grand-opening celebration for the new restaurant has not been set.
