Mentor Lake Catholic wins JFK Invite

Mentor Lake Catholic’s Nick Scharf shot a 75 to earn co-medalist honors and help the Cougars place first in the rainy 13-team JFK Invitational on Monday at Trumbull Country Club.
Lake Catholic finished with 318 to best JFK (336) and Poland (340). Cardinal Mooney was fourth with 345 and Girard fifth with 351.
East Liverpool’s Isaac Davison also shot a 75 as the Potters placed sixth with 351. Parma Heights Holy Name was seventh with 361, followed by Canfield and West Branch (each with 367), Ursuline (368), South Range (380), Western Reserve (399) and Garfield Heights Trinity (412).
JFK’s Ryan Fowler made 77 and teammate Daniel LaPolla had a 79. Lake Catholic’s Kyle Horvath was the only other player to shoot in the 70s in the rain-soaked conditions, finishing with a 78.
Zach Shoaf (88) and Ryan Theis (92) rounded out JFK’s scoring.
For Poland, Brian Velasquez (82), Zack Jacobson (84), Mark Passarello (85) and Brendan Glosser (89) all finished in the 80s, as did Mooney’s Nick Bradich (84), Nick Hough (86), Matt Daprile (86) and Ken Keller (89). Anthony Graziano (81) and Mark Standohar (82) and Mike Bowser (86) all finished in the 80s for Girard.
