Kin of slain Pa. teacher wants husband to repay $66K

GREENSBURG, Pa. (AP) — The family of a western Pennsylvania teacher strangled by her husband wants him to pay more than $66,000 to compensate for their trouble and time spent at his murder trial, and legal bills for the woman’s estate.

The Pittsburgh Tribune-Review reports the request was aired at a hearing Monday in which 44-year-old David Stahl’s attorney asked that his conviction be overturned.

Defense attorney Donna McClelland is arguing Westmoreland County prosecutors didn’t do enough to disprove Stahl’s claim that he was merely defending himself after Rebecca Stahl grabbed a knife.

David Stahl is serving life in prison after being convicted of first-degree murder in the February 2012 death of the Derry Area school teacher whose body he then dumped in a field.

Her family wants the compensation to come from Stahl’s $103,000 retirement account.
