City schools to announce 'Back to School Kickoff'

YOUNGSTOWN — The city school district is hosting a news conference at 11 a.m. today at the I.L. Ward Building, West Wood Street, to announce the Back to School Kickoff.

Dubbed the Total Package, the kickoff is set for noon to 4 p.m. Aug. 23 at the Judge William Rayen Stadium on Benita Avenue and will include school information, representatives from social and health agencies, music and free book bags and school supplies while supplies last.

School principals, teachers and administrators will attend this event to provide information on educational programs offered through the district and to answer questions. Personnel will process and distribute child identification kits and offer carnival-like activities and food including bounce houses, games, face painting, hot dogs, popcorn and snow cones.

Entertainment will be provided throughout the day from local choirs and musicians, including Youngstown’s Total Package Band.
