ValleyCare to host Senior Day event

ValleyCare Health System of Ohio will host a Senior Day Celebration from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Aug. 20 at the Davis Education and Visitor Center in Fellows Riverside Gardens, 123 McKinley Ave.

The 2014 event has been moved from its previous location at Southern Park Mall.

The celebration begins with a 9 a.m. continental breakfast sponsored by Whitefire Grille, while supplies last. Live musical entertainment sponsored by the Mahoning Valley Hospital Foundation will be provided by John Gabriele.

A diabetes academy will take place at 10:30 a.m. in the Tyler classroom of the Davis Center, provided by diabetes educator Julie Gosnell. She will provide information on staying healthy, wellness and prevention, diabetes 101 and will have a demonstration of Norvo Nordisk products and giveaways of portion plates and a food scale. Gosnell will be available for questions throughout the event from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

ValleyCare Health System of Ohio is the presenting sponsor of the celebration. It will provide 20 medical stations with free health screenings and valuable health-related information. Northside Medical Center Senior Circle Program also will be providing information on its social activities, travel and health benefits of the program.

A variety of 30 local businesses will be exhibiting information on finances, veterans services, home improvements, senior care and more.

Additional activities for seniors will include dancing, prizes and demonstrations provided by The Water Color Society and the Round Table Wood Carvers.

Dan Rivers of 570 WKBN radio will be broadcasting his morning show live at the event.
