AmeriCorps service

Maggie Charles of Girard graduated late last month from the AmeriCorps National Civilian Community Corps.

Charles and the other 233 members of the corps, who were at the Pacific Region campus based in Sacramento, Calif., completed more than 130 projects, all of which took places in the western part of the United States.

The projects included responding to fires with the U.S. Forest Service, income-tax return preparation, building homes with Habitat for Humanity, serving as camp counselors and invasive-species removal. According to a press release, corps members completed half a million hours of service over the course of these projects.
