Mejia helps Scrappers top Yankees

Francisco Mejia went 3-for-6 with a double and scored a run to lead the Mahoning Valley Scrappers to an 11-6 victory over the Staten Island Yankees in a New York-Penn League game on Saturday at Eastwood Field.
David Armendariz also had three hits and scored a run and Ordomar Valdez added two hits and a RBI for the Scrappers (24-31). Leo Castillo singled and drove in three runs, Steven Patterson had two hits and Greg Allen and D’vone McClure each scored two runs in the victory.
Justin Garcia pitched four innings of relief to get the win, giving up three runs (two earned) on four hits and two walks. He struck out four.
J.P. Feyereisen pitched a perfect eighth inning.
Connor Spencer had four hits, including two doubles, and scored twice for Staten Island. Austin Aune homered and scored twice.
Jordan Foley (0-1) started and got the loss, giving up five runs in 31/3 innings on five hits and three walks. He struck out one.
Mahoning Valley hosts Staten Island today and Monday, then travels to State College for a three-game series beginning on Tuesday.
