Men's Garden Club plans for 50th Horticultural Show

YOUNGSTOWN

The Men’s Garden Club of Youngstown will present its 50th annual Horticultural Show on Aug. 23 and 24 at Fellows Riverside Gardens in Mill Creek Park.

It is free and open to the public.

There will be 14 judging sections consisting of vegetables, ornamentals, fruits, annuals, perennials and biennials, dahlias, bulbs and tubers, roses, potted plants, bonsai, cacti, succulents, woody plants and hanging containers.

Participation in the show is open to anyone interested in growing plants. Entries to be judged must be received between 7 and 10:30 a.m. Aug. 23. Late entries will be shown but not judged.

Awards will be given in the following categories: Sectional Awards, given to entries from each section of the competition; Best of Show Award, chosen from all sectional winners; Sweepstakes Award, determined by points; and Larry Whetson Heaviest Tomato Award, $25 for the heaviest edible tomato, sponsored by Greier Ag.

Youth Gardener Awards for ages 16 and under will be awarded for sectional and best of show.
