Grant to help pay for Mesopotamia road project
Staff report
WARREN
About 2.4 miles of Donley East Road in Mesopotamia Township between state Route 534 and Mahan-Parker Road will receive significant upgrades to its base, ditches, culverts and paving.
The $582,779 project will receive a $251,200 competitive grant from the Ohio Development Services Agency, officials learned this week.
Other funding for the project includes $162,779 from the Trumbull County Engineer’s office and $168,800 from the federal Community Development Block Grant program.
The township qualifies for the state grant and CDBG grant because a fairly high percentage of its residents — 55.5 percent — are low- to moderate-income.
The date for the road work to be carried out has not been established, but the project will be put out for bid in the fall.
Julie M. Green, county grants manager, applied for the state grant with the assistance of the Trumbull County Engineer’s Office, Mesopotamia Township trustees, the Mesopotamia Township road and fire departments and the Bloomfield-Mesopotamia School Board.
