Multiple fractures caused plant death

YOUNGSTOWN

Dr. Joseph S. Ohr, Mahoning County deputy coroner, has determined that a man who died Tuesday after being injured at a Niles aluminum extrusions company succumbed as a result of head, neck and chest fractures.

A news release from the coroner’s office says an autopsy of Daniel Banks, 49, found no evidence the accident was a result of Banks’ suffering from an acute medical problem.

“There is no evidence of drugs or alcohol in the body or at the scene,” it says.

Toxicology results are pending, and the incident remains under investigation by the coroner’s office and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration.

Banks was injured while operating a machine press at BRT Extrusions, where he had worked since 2009.
