Boardman library hosts puppet show

As part of its summer program of events, Boardman library hosted a puppet show on July 16.
Children’s librarians Katherina Matasic and John Yingling performed the puppet show for one hour for an enthusiastic group of approximately 50 children.
“The puppet show is a tradition here at Boardman,” Matasic said. “We do it every summer and every year around Christmas time we do another. It’s been going on for a while. It’s a good way to bring some of the kids’ favorite stories to life with the puppets. That’s a big inspiration for it.”
Matasic and Yingling performed several funny stories, as well as children’s favorites “Elephant and Piggie” from the book series, and the Youtube video “What Does The Fox Say?”
“Mostly funny stories, that’s kind of our thing,” Matasic said. “We like to do funny.”
Candice Wright of Boardman brought her 4-year-old son Milo to see the show. She said he is a big puppet fan.
“We just like coming to the library,” Candice said. “He loves getting books and seeing the programs. We’ve come to a bunch of programs this summer and he really enjoys it. It gets him excited to read.
“He loves puppets. He loves ‘What Does The Fox Say?’ He’s excited about this particular show.”
Matasic said the puppet show has many benefits for the children who attend.
“It’s a good chance to bring some of their favorite stories to life when they see these puppets,” she said. “A lot of it is an experience to get to come and have a fun time. It’s going to create a positive association with the library. And hopefully a good laugh, too.”
