City police recently arrested or charged several people on misdemeanor drug offenses.

At 2:15 p.m. Tuesday, Roosevelt Kellie Jr., 59, of Roxbury Avenue was pulled over at Oak Hill and Evergreen avenues for not using a turn signal. When officers got to the car, they noticed a sandwich bag on the floorboards with five suboxone strips.

Kellie was issued a summons for possession of drugs and released.

About 5:25 p.m. Tuesday, police spotted a vehicle driven by William Huffman, 42, of Youngstown, in the middle of Roslyn Avenue and saw it drive away after a man approached the windows. Police pulled it over at Saranac and Kensington avenues, and Huffman gave police a digital scale when asked if he had anything in the car, reports said.

A pill bottle was found inside the car with a codeine strip, reports said. Huffman was taken to the Mahoning County jail on charges of possession of drugs and drug paraphernalia.

A few minutes later, about 5:40 p.m., officers pulled over a car driven by Glenn Leyman, 34, of Davis Street in Girard, for making an improper turn in the 100 block of North Belle Vista Avenue. Leyman had a needle in the pockets of his shorts when he was searched, reports said. He was given a citation for possession of a drug-abuse instrument.

About 6:25 p.m. Tuesday, police pulled over a car driven by 42-year-old Michael Gay of Youngstown for an improper turn at Glenwood and West Myrtle avenues. Police found a syringe on a woman who was a passenger and a spoon inside the car, but reports said Gay admitted they were his and that he had just recently taken heroin.

A records check also showed that Gay was wanted on two failure-to-appear warrants from municipal court for possession of drug paraphernalia and driving under suspension.

Gay was taken to the jail on the warrants and a charge of possession of drug paraphernalia.
