POLICE CALLS

A summary of recent criminal activity in Poland and Boardman townships:

POLAND

July 29

Assault: A 16-year-old Poland girl and another female reported having been assaulted while on Lee Run Road.

July 30

Arrest: Carson H. Pope, 25, of Water Street, Poland, was arrested near Shawbutte Street on a charge of operating a vehicle impaired.

Harassment: A Center Road man said he’s being harassed.

BOARDMAN

July 31

Arrest: Authorities dealt with a male who reportedly was walking around naked and threatening to kill someone at a Market Street tanning salon before charging Scott T. Vincent, 50, of Crystal Drive, Boardman, with disorderly conduct, resisting arrest, public indecency and inducing panic, all misdemeanors. Vincent, who was clad only in a pair of socks, refused to cooperate with police and made a general threat, a report showed.

Citation: Police issued a minor-misdemeanor citation charging Marcia S. Paster, no age given, of Southeast Boulevard, Salem, with public intoxication after answering a call pertaining to two women who were reportedly intoxicated and trying to leave Southern Park Mall in a vehicle.

Menacing: A Southern Boulevard man reported his former girlfriend has sent him a series of unwanted text messages, some threatening in nature.

Theft: A garbage can was taken from a home in the 600 block of Cathy Ann Drive.

Theft: Devon R. Sowers, 20, of Willow Drive, Boardman, surrendered on a warrant accusing her of stealing a $4 stick of deodorant July 24 from Dollar General, 8573 Market St.

Misuse of a credit card: A Leighton Avenue woman learned that a stolen, company-owned credit card had been used without authorization at two township locations.

Theft: A worker for a Boardman-Canfield Road discount store discovered two unauthorized debit-card charges totaling $500.

Theft: A man stole about $2,258 worth of merchandise, including several satchels, from Macy’s in the Southern Park Mall.

Aug. 1

Breaking and entering: Someone entered a carport in the 5000 block of Lockwood Boulevard and stole a power washer, a leaf blower, a cordless drill, a 24-inch TV and a DVD player.

Harassment: The owner of a Market Street business told authorities he received more than 30 unwanted contacts to his website.

Robbery: A man reported that a gunman and an accomplice tried to rob him of an iPhone as he walked near Southern Boulevard and Shadyside Drive before he got away. The gunman was described as age 17 to 18 with curly medium hair in a red T-shirt and a pair of jeans shorts; his accomplice was described as 15 to 16 with short black hair and wearing a light-brown shirt.

Theft: A Warren man reported having called a Market Street business to order a brush-guard kit for his truck and being charged four times the amount of the item. He received a partial refund but was out $600, a report showed.

Theft: Authorities at the Trumbull County Jail picked up 25-year-old Kayla S. Sweitzer of Southern Boulevard, Youngstown, on two theft warrants. She was accused of stealing DVDs on two occasions from Giant Eagle, 476 Boardman-Canfield Road.

Aug. 2

Harassment: An Oregon Trail woman told officers she got 50 text messages that were derogatory in nature.

Theft: Three women reportedly stole 103 pieces of merchandise from Babies “R” Us, The Baby Super Store, 1240 Doral Drive. The loss was estimated at $1,580.

Theft: A Youngstown woman reported someone had removed insulin from a refrigerator in a medical facility in the 6500 block of Market Street.

Theft by deception: A New England Boulevard man learned that someone had used his credit-card information to make two unauthorized online transactions totaling roughly $300.

Theft: Robert N. McClimans, 21, of St. John Avenue, Niles, was charged with stealing a 32-inch TV from Walmart, 1300 Doral Drive.

Theft: A $140 boy’s bicycle was removed from a front yard in the 40 block of Arlene Avenue.

Harassment: A Glenwood Avenue man said a woman sent him several such text messages.

Theft: Several shoplifters reportedly stole 20 women’s shirts from Dick’s Sporting Goods, 550 Boardman-Poland Road.

Aug. 3

Arrest: Police responded to a suspicious person at Dollar General, 4996 Market St., where they took into custody Jesse L. Carter Jr. of Stocker Avenue, Youngstown. The 59-year-old Carter was wanted on a Trumbull County warrant accusing him of failing to appear in court on a theft charge.

Harassment: Garrettsville police handed to township authorities 60-year-old Daniel L. Hiles, who was wanted on a telecommunications-harassment charge. Hiles, of Adelaide Drive, Warren, was accused of making a series of unwanted calls to Sateri Home Inc., 920 Boardman-Canfield Road, between June 29 and July 6.

Domestic violence: Kaila M. McConnell, 25, of Breadon Avenue, Youngstown, was charged with the crime after her father alleged that during an argument in the 4000 block of South Avenue, McConnell had struck and kicked his face.

Theft: Cynthia M. Soich, 48, of Crescent Street, Struthers, was charged in the theft of two silver rings from Walmart.

Criminal mischief: A Hopkins Road woman said she thought someone had thrown rocks at her residence.

Theft: An employee with a Market Street pizzeria reported her $161 iPhone stolen while at work.

Theft: A global-positioning-system unit, a pair of men’s sunglasses, a cellphone charger and loose change were stolen from a car in the 100 block of North Cadillac Drive.

Vandalism: Someone in a passing car tossed eggs, striking a vehicle in the 7400 block of Oregon Trail.

Domestic violence: Youngstown police handed to township authorities Allen M. Vazquez, 25, of Hammaker Street, Youngstown, who was wanted on a domestic-violence charge after officers responded to paramedics treating a woman in the 500 block of Boardman-Poland Road who alleged having been punched multiple times in the face during an argument.

Aug. 4

Theft: An iPod and related accessories were taken from a vehicle in the 40 block of Maple Drive.

Theft: Someone stole a GPS unit, a Kindle and a government-issued cellphone from a car in the 100 block of South Cadillac Drive. The theft came to $750.

Theft: Kaylyn M. Pontuti, 20, of West Middletown Road, Canfield, was charged with taking about $244 worth of merchandise, including a men’s shirt, from Kohl’s, 383 Boardman-Poland Road.

Arrests: Authorities’ response to a suspicious vehicle on Ewing Road led to the arrests of Robert L. Anderson II, 36, of Indiana Avenue, Girard, on charges of obstructing official business and having an open container of alcohol in a motor vehicle, as well as Danielle Crago, 37, of Douglas Avenue, Youngstown, on several drug-related charges. Anderson, who also was wanted on a probation-violation warrant, provided a false name, police said, and Crago had 59 Tramadol pills in a container without a label, as well as two suspected marijuana pipes, a report stated.

Assault: A Girard woman driving in the 6500 block of Market Street told police another person in the car grabbed her hair during an argument, then struck her near the right eye and bit her chin. She suffered bruising and swelling.

Theft: Two Youngstown girls, 14 and 15, were accused of stealing about $335 worth of property from the JCPenney store in Southern Park Mall.

Theft/forgery: A Sequoya Drive woman found out that someone had cashed a $6,500 check in her name but without permission.

Breaking and entering: Someone in the 200 block of Shields Road broke into a car before removing a GPS unit and an iPhone charger.

Theft: A man in his mid-40s to mid-50s stole a $300 air-conditioning unit and a set of mini blinds from Target, 417 Boardman-Poland Road.

Theft: An undetermined quantity of merchandise was stolen from Family Dollar, 4026 South Ave.

Theft: David J. Shoenfel II, 25, was charged in the theft of a $129 computer hard drive and two compact discs from Walmart. The Louisville man also was wanted on two Stark County warrants.

Theft/forgery: A Paxton Road man discovered several checks missing from his checkbook before learning that someone also had cashed and forged some for roughly $594.

Identity theft: A Melrose Avenue woman told police she had received a suspicious letter from the Ohio Department of Taxation claiming she needed to provide her personal information as well as that of her husband for a review of a 2013 income-tax return they supposedly filed jointly, even though her husband had died several years earlier.

Theft: Someone took $100 from a car in the 5000 block of Friendship Avenue.

Theft: A $100 iPod device was removed from a vehicle in the 100 block of Shadyside Drive.

Criminal mischief: Someone broke a rear sliding-glass window to a car in the 400 block of Flagler Lane.

Theft: A GPS unit, a pair of jogging pants and a small amount of change were stolen from two cars in the 5300 block of Old Oxford Lane.

Burglary: To a residence in the 8100 block of Hitchcock Road, from which 50 feet of copper valued at $100 was taken from the basement.

Theft/criminal damaging: Someone in the 300 block of White House Lane removed a GPS device and its mount from a vehicle, which also had sustained damage to the roof.

Aug. 5

Arrests: Police got a tip that someone was knocking over trash cans on Elva Road before charging two Youngstown girls, 14 and 15, with obstructing official business. The older teen also was charged with resisting arrest when, officers said, she screamed, kicked and flailed about when arrested.

Harassment: A McKeesport, Pa., man said he received several such text messages and emails while in the 7900 block of Hitchcock Road.
