ROOTSTOWN, Ohio

Authorities say a passenger train struck and killed a man as he walked along railroad tracks just south of Ravenna.

A coroner’s investigator says Tim Freeland, 53, often walked the tracks to get to work. He was struck shortly after 6 a.m. Wednesday in Rootstown.

The investigator surmised that Freeland may have thought the train was headed north. The train was southbound.

No one aboard the train was injured.
