Sidewalk to close for Party on Plaza

The sidewalk and front area of Warehouse 50, 47 W. Federal St., will be closed for the Party on the Plaza from 4 p.m. Friday to 1 a.m. Saturday.
Outage on South Side explained
YOUNGSTOWN
A broken utility pole was responsible for cutting off power to about 2,600 Ohio Edison subscribers on the South Side Tuesday.
David Turner, area manager of Mahoning and Columbiana counties for the utility, said it took about a half-hour to get the power restored. Turner said he was not sure how the pole was broken.
Power was out in the area from South Avenue and Front Street to South Avenue and Midlothian Boulevard.
Elderly woman stabbed in Sharon

Police have charged Erica Boatwright, 30, with criminal attempted homicide and aggravated assault, accusing her of stabbing Charlotte Alston, 70, Tuesday, according to The Vindicator’s broadcast partner, 21 WFMJ-TV.
The victim was taken to St. Elizabeth Health Center in Youngstown, and is reportedly in critical condition with life-threatening injuries.
The stabbing took place sometime before 4:30 a.m. at Alston’s apartment on Mesabi Street. Police said Alston knows Boatwright, and let her into the residence, according to WFMJ.
Boatwright surrendered to authorities Tuesday afternoon. She is being held in lieu of a $500,000 bond in the Mercer CountyJail.
Police do not know the motive behind the crime.
Theft reported
CAMPBELL
A 57-year-old resident in the 10 block of Ensley Drive reported the theft of several pieces of jewelry late Monday. The woman told police two of her cousins from Detroit had been staying in the home’s spare bedroom for their family reunion. She said she kept some of her jewelry in that room, and noticed Monday that it was gone. The woman suspects her cousins took the items, which include a diamond bracelet, three diamond rings and two gold rope necklaces.
Fire at vacant house
YOUNGSTOWN
Reports said a fire at a vacant home at 66 Lauderdale Ave. at about 3:50 a.m. Tuesday caused $7,000 in damage.
Crews called to the home found a fire in the first-floor living room, and the fire was contained there. Reports said an odor of an accelerant also was detected.
No one was injured; the cause is listed as under investigation.
