LORDSTOWN

Canada-based Matalco, an aluminum billet manufacturer, closed on a $690,000 land acquisition in Lordstown to build the plant the company invested $125 million in.

A ground-breaking ceremony for the plant on the 31 plus acre site inside the Ohio Commerce Centre will take place on Sept. 17.

Routh-Hurlbert Co. of Warren co-brokered the deal and completed it on Tuesday.

“What we are excited about is the fact they have chosen Lordstown,” said Chuck Joseph of Routh-Hurlbert.

Matalco received support along the way from the village of Lordstown and the Regional Chamber of Commerce.

In December, the Ohio Job Creation Tax Credit Authority approved tax credits for Matalco Inc. The company was approved for a 50-percent, eight-year tax credit that would provide $450,000 in assistance from the state.

Lordstown approved a 75-percent, 10-year property tax abatement for the Canadian company.

It is estimated that the Lordstown facility will employ 60 to 80 full-time personnel with an annual production of 350 million pounds of aluminium billet.

Matalco Inc. has two plants, in Brampton, Ontario, and Canton. The company provides LEED-qualified material and is both ISO 9001 and 14001 certified.
