LORDSTOWN
Steve Notar Donato is the new General Motors Lords-town Complex plant manager effective Aug. 1.
Notar Donato, former plant manager, GM Stamping facility in Marion, Ind., was promoted to replace Bob Parcell, who was recently promoted to manufacturing manager, GM International Operations based in Singapore.
“We are looking forward to the opportunity to create a good working relationship with him,” said Glenn Johnson, head of the United Auto Workers Local 1112.
Notar Donato comes to the plant with more than 27 years at GM. He began his career as a college graduate in training and progressed through multiple assignments in manufacturing, manufacturing engineering and labor relations.
He has worked at several GM facilities including Flint Stamping, Lansing Stamping, New United Motor Manufacturing Inc., Orion Assembly, Parma Metal Center, Wentzville Assembly and Marion.
He has a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Notre Dame and a master’s degree in manufacturing management from Kettering University.
Notar Donato’s predecessor, Parcell, was promoted in June to replace Phill Disch after Disch retired from his position as manufacturing manager for GM International Operations.
Parcell’s new position will be effective Sept. 1, and he is responsible for overseeing the Singapore-based operations of 13 manufacturing facilities and more than 13,000 employees.
Parcell joined Lordstown on Aug. 1, 2010, and led the plant through the launch of the Chevrolet Cruze and “has guided Lordstown on a process-driven path of continuous improvement that has resulted in Cruze being one of the top-selling vehicles in North America today and GM’s best-selling car,” according to a press release issued by the company in June.
Before Parcell, John Donahoe was the Lordstown plant manager. He retired in July 2010 after 33 years with the company, according to Vindicator files.
Donahoe came to Lords-town in 2005 and replaced Maureen Midgley, plant manager from 2001 to 2005. He was said to have helped solidify relationships between management and labor union leaders and also helped launch the Cruze.
