Stage adaptations of Poe works will be compiled in book
YOUNGSTOWN
The scripts for every Edgar Allan Poe stage adaptation written by J.E.Ballantyne Jr. of Youngstown will be made available in an anthology published by J&B Productions Arts Services. Most of the adaptations were produced at the Victorian Players Theater between 2005 and 2013 during the Halloween season.
To raise money for the project, a kickstarter.com campaign has been launched. To donate, go to the website and search for Edgar Allan Poe. Donors will receive rewards for backing the project.
Contained in the anthology will be adaptations of “The Fall of the House of Usher,” “The Tell-Tale Heart,” “The Black Cat,” “The Cask of Amontillado,” “The Masque of the Red Death” and “The Facts in the Case of M. Valdemar.” In addition, two original plays written by Ballantyne will be included: “Poe: Quoth the Raven ... Nevermore” and “The Tell-Tale Poe.” Both of these deal with portions of Poe’s life and feature some of Poe’s better known works to supplement the story.
The anthology will be published in early 2015 and will be available at online retailers including amazon.com and as e-books. Actors’ editions of all adaptations are also available to theaters interested in producing them.
