Burglars score $18K in jewelry in Boardman

BOARDMAN

A woman lost thousands of dollars of jewelry after a break-in Monday.

According to a police report, a woman of the 3900 block of South Schenley Avenue lost $18,000 worth if bracelets, gold necklaces, a diamond ring, and other jewelry items.

The woman received a text from her home security system at 12:53 p.m. Monday that her family room door alarm had been tripped. Once home, she saw her rear sliding door open and a door to the home open.

She entered her home through the front and found someone had taken the jewelry.

The report said the police arrived at the home to take photos and process the home due to how recent the theft had occurred.

The alarm system told Boardman police the reason they weren't alerted is because the woman had only had the system installed for seven days and was still considered to be in the "testing phase," the report said.
