Avalon Holdings plans to renovate Howland hotel

HOWLAND β€” A Warren-based company is planning to make its facilities a year-round destination with the purchase of a local hotel.

Avalon Holdings Corp. purchased the Magnuson Grand Hotel and intends complete a multimillion-dollar renovation to the site, said Ronald Klingle, CEO of Avalon Holdings. The site will be renamed The Avalon Resort and Spa.

The Magnuson was built in the 1960s and originally was named the Avalon Inn. The building is right next to the Avalon Golf and Country Club and Avalon Lakes golf course.

β€œIt had always been an excellent place to stay, but in the last few years, it had become a little dated,” Klingle said.

The intent is that after the renovation, the facility will be one of the best places to stay in the country, he said.

Improvements to the resort and spa are expected to occur over the next year.
