Training classes set for Lawrence crisis shelter volunteers

Staff report

NEW CASTLE, PA.

The Crisis Shelter of Lawrence County, 1218 W. State St., has released the 2014 schedule of training classes for volunteers.

They will be offered from Sept. 9 through Dec. 9 on consecutive Tuesdays, excluding two dates with no classes, for a total of 12 classes.

Participants will learn about the dynamics of domestic violence and sexual assault, safety planning, empowerment counseling, confidentiality and other topics.

Before the first week of training, all potential volunteers must attend one of the two scheduled pre-sessions. During the pre-session (which lasts approximately one to one-and-a-half hours), volunteers will complete necessary paperwork, receive their schedule and volunteer handbook/training guide and register for the online training components, which are a required part of the training process.

No one will be permitted to attend the training without attending a pre-session. They will take place at 5:30 p.m. Aug. 26 or 10 a.m. Sept. 2.
