Indiana homers spill Canfield at regional

INDIANAPOLIS
Canfield’s 11-12 baseball team struggled in the field in Saturday’s debut at the Little League Central Regional Tournament.
Canfield committed three errors that led to three unearned runs as Indiana’s representative from New Albany defeated Canfield, 11-6.
Cooper Biven was the hitting hero for Indiana, hitting three homers and driving in four runs.
Indiana jumped out to a 4-0 lead by scoring three times in the first inning and once in the second.
Canfield responded with three runs in the bottom of the second inning. A wild pitch and an RBI single by Ethan Fletcher led to Canfield’s scoring outburst.
But Canfield’s momentum quickly evaporated when Indiana struck back for three more runs in the third inning for a 7-3 lead.
Indiana added two runs in each of the fourth and fifth innings.
Canfield scored once in the fourth inning and twice in the fifth frame. Evan Skripac had an RBI single in the fourth inning while Brayden Beck had one in the fifth.
Dominic Pilolli took the pitching loss, allowing seven runs in three innings. Pilolli walked two and struck out six. Richie Hofus, Skirpac and Brandon Mikos also pitched.
Pilolli, Seth Velker, McCoy Watkins and Jimmy Maass also had hits for Canfield.
Today at 2 p.m., Canfield continues pool play against Michigan’s representative (Midland),
Reliever Josh Castleman was credited with the victory. He allowed one run in two innings on the mound.

Boardman committed 11 errors in falling to LaGrange, the state champions from Illinois.
Today at 9:30 a.m., Boardman plays the Indiana state champions from Jeffersonville. Indiana lost to Elyria East, 6-4, in the double-elimination tournament at Firestone Stadium.
