Support shown for Struthers detective outside of disciplinary conference
STRUTHERS
Almost two dozen family members, friends and community members have gathered at Struthers City Hall to show their support for Detective Ray Greenwood, a 15-year veteran of the Struthers Police Department who has been on paid administrative leave for two months.
People began congregating at the Elm Street building shortly before Greenwood's pre-disciplinary conference, scheduled for 9:30 a.m. City officials declined to comment on the specifics of the conference or his leave.
Greenwood's supporters, however, insist that Greenwood did nothing wrong, and that he was only doing his job.
Larry Wood of Struthers has known Greenwood for 16 years, and said his being placed on leave stems from a "personnel vendetta" that members of city administration have against Greenwood. If his employment is terminated, it would be "a terrible loss" to the city of Struthers.
"He's never been reprimanded over anything or any situation like this," Wood said. "I think the people of Struthers are going to lose a valuable officer and a great citizen."
The conference is ongoing.
