Scrappers win in 11th on Tri-City passed ball

TROY, N.Y.
Austin Fisher scored the winning run in the 11th inning as the Mahoning Valley Scrappers defeated the Tri-City ValleyCats, 7-6, in New York-Penn League play.
With one out, Fisher singled to left and Greg Allen also singled. A groundout moved the runners over to bring Bradley Zimmer to the plate. While Zimmer was batting, a passed ball by Jake Rodriguez brought Fisher home.
Scrappers reliever Ramon Rodriguez earned the victory.
Leo Castillo had a big night, going 3 for 5 and driving in three runs. Allen added two hits and an RBI for the Scrappers.
The ValleyCats started the night by scoring two runs in the bottom of the first inning on an RBI single from Ricky Gingras and a run-scoring double from Mott Hyde.
The Scrappers (21-26) responded in the fourth with an RBI groundout from Castillo.
Tri-City (31-16) added a run in the fifth to tie the game at 2 and the Scrappers put up two runs in the sixth and seventh innings. In the sixth, Castillo had a two-run triple.
The ValleyCats tied the game at 5 in the eighth to eventually force extra innings.
Both teams scored runs in the 10th to keep the game going until Fisher scored.
Scrappers starter Julian Merryweather pitched four innings, giving up six hits and striking out four.
David Speer threw three innings of relief, giving up one run on three hits.
The Scrappers finish their three-game series with the ValleyCats today at 7 p.m.
