STRUTHERS

Ray Greenwood, a longtime detective with the Struthers Police Department who has been on paid administrative leave for more than two months, is scheduled for a pre-disciplinary conference at 9:30 a.m. Friday at city hall.

City officials declined to comment specifically on the terms of the conference and his leave, however.

Mayor Terry Stocker said only that internal and external investigations into a number of “various issues” related to Greenwood are ongoing and that the dual investigations commenced earlier this year, in February or March. It wasn’t just “one or two” issues being investigated, either.

He added that though a decision regarding Greenwood’s employment has not yet been made, it is “very possible” it could come soon.

“We take all activity in the city very seriously and very sensitively,” Stocker said. “I think that we need to try to resolve this. We need to give everybody their due process, whichever direction this is going to take.”

Greenwood, who has been with the police department for 15 years, was placed on leave May 27. Both Stocker and Ed Wildes, the city’s safety-service director, mentioned hearing about a planned show of support at city hall today, prior to the conference. Wildes noted that the gathering, if it takes place, would not affect normal proceedings.

“City hall’s open for business,” he said, “and we’re going to run business as normal.”

Police Chief Tim Roddy declined to comment.
