To keep on top of area residents’ real estate needs, Northwood Realty Services opened a new location at 5 W. McKinley Way in Poland with a ribbon cutting ceremony on July 17.

The more than 20 agents who work for the new office, plus Northwood Realty management, participated in the ribbon cutting.

“We love Poland and we have offices in Canfield and Boardman, so we wanted something in Poland,” Northwood Realty of Ohio General Manager Marlin Palich said. “We started working with our commercial realtor [John Horvath] who works for us and he found us this building. It used to be a First Place Bank. We love the location. We thought we wanted to be right here.

“From there, we had Fred Beshara, our builder, come in and have blueprints drawn up and we went from there. We took the drive through out and enclosed that. We put the transit windows and work stations for the agents in. It was a little bit of a process, but at the end of the day we’re really happy how it turned out.”

Northwood Realty has been in business since 1956. The company has 200 agents in Ohio and 37 offices with more than 1,000 agents across the country. The company focuses on residential properties but does have a thriving commercial division. Northwood does approximately 1,000 transactions per year in the Mahoning Valley.

The new office is 1,600 square feet and cost $130,000 to remodel. The building is leased from John Scotford of Poland.

“He was so happy and we’re so happy to be his tenant because he’s been with us on this on the project,” Palich said of Scotford.

Palich said the company definitely wants to become a part of the Poland community.

“I think that when you look at this community, we wanted to be a part of it,” he said. “We love the feel of the community. I’m from Trumbull County but I love Poland. It’s very quaint, it has a good feel. We wanted to be a part of that. It’s family and family and friendly and we like that. You see people walking their dogs and walking on sidewalks and doing things. We wanted to be a part of that. We wanted to have more of a presence right here in this community.”
