The Canfield volleyball staff and high school players hosted the 2014 Volleyball Skills Youth Camp for girls entering third- through eighth-grade at Canfield High School June 30 - July 1. Coaches from seventh-grade through varsity and players from freshmen to seniors helped during the two-day camp, which had 115 registered campers.

The camp focused on individual volleyball skills and drills, with team scrimmages to end the camp.

“Having fun at this camp is key. We want to get girls loving volleyball at a young age so our program can build from there. The camp helps fine tune the older girls’ skills and introduces the sport to the younger girls so they can gain a love of the sport,” said Maria Householder, varsity girls volleyball head coach.

The high school volleyball players instructed the campers during various skills stations.

“We broke the campers into groups and assigned our high school players to them. They stayed in those groups for both camp days with the same high school players. We wanted to connect the younger girls to the older girls. This is good for the whole program and many times the younger girls come to our high school matches to see the players who helped them at camp,” Householder said.

Various prizes were awarded throughout the camp and each camper received a T-shirt for attending the camp.
