Austintown library hosts second Family Movie Night

After a successful first Family Movie Night in June, Austintown library came back with another on July 7.
The first event – which showed the movie “Frozen” – attracted a crowd of about 10, with July’s having half of that for “The Lego Movie.”
The Family Movie Nights had previously been done at the Main, Newport and East branches of the library. Austintown library will try to do them about once a month.
“The Friends of the Library donated money to pay for public performance rights for us to show movies to the public,” Austintown library assistant supervisor Starr Jones said. “We think it’s a good way to get people in the doors so once they’re here they’ll get library cards, check out books, sign up for summer reading. Also, give kids a safe place to go, something that’s fun and free. Especially when you hear of some of these chain movie theaters closing, or they’re reopening but they might not be as cheap as they used to be. Hopefully they get a positive interaction with the library. Someplace they’ll come back to and see what we have.”
Jones said doing the Family Movie Nights is a lot easier than some other projects.
“It’s easy to use the library’s movies,” she said. “It’s cheap and we don’t have to get crafts ready or anything like that.”
Jones said picking “The Lego Movie” to show was an easy decision considering it’s a newer film and very popular with the library’s target audience.
“It’s a movie that just came out,” she said. “It just came in to the library, so we thought we’d show something new that the kids would want to see.”
Lisa Wogan of Canfield brought her sons, Nick and Sam, to see “The Lego Movie.” She said they are huge fans.
“They’re Lego fanatics,” she said. “The boys love Legos. They’ve seen it once but they wanted to see it again.”
“I wanted to see the movie because we watched it before and it is very awesome,” Nick said.
