YOUNGSTOWN

“Recipes of Youngstown” contains more than 500 recipes submitted by local or formerly local cooks who created a Facebook page to share recipes and stories.

The book is now available for advance orders. The hardcover edition contains old favorites and new creations. All the profits from the sale of the cookbook will benefit Lanterman’s Mill in Mill Creek Park.

The tone of the book is casual and homespun because of the many stories that accompany the recipes. A special surprise is that one of the most coveted recipes in the history of Youngstown is contained in the book. You’ll have to buy one to find out what it is.

The book is available through www.millcreekmetroparks.org/visit/publications/recipes-of-youngstown-cookbook/. It also can be ordered at the Mill Creek MetroParks Farm, 7574 Columbiana-Canfield Road, Canfield, or by phone at 330-702-3000.

The address to mail in an order is Mill Creek MetroParks, P.O. Box 596, Canfield, OH 44406. If paying by check, write “Recipes of Youngstown” cookbook in the memo line.

The price is $19.50 if picking up at the farm, or $25 if it’s mailed to you. Tax and shipping are included in the mail-in price.

A Taste of Tradition is planned from noon to 4 p.m. May 18 at Lanterman’s Mill. Several of the cookbook contributors will be there to offer samples of recipes from the book.

They will sell tickets for the samples at $5 for six tickets, and all the proceeds go to the mill. Featured will be door prizes and gift baskets for which tickets will be sold, as well as a painting of the mill done by a local artist.
