Ohio man sentenced to 20 years in prison for child rape

ATHENS, Ohio (AP) — A southeast Ohio man has been sentenced to 20 years in prison after pleading guilty to raping a 13-year-old girl.

The Athens Messenger reports that the now 15-year-old victim spoke of the trauma of the rape in an Athens County court hearing Tuesday for 35-year-old Alan Brigner.

Court documents said Brigner raped the girl six times between July 1, 2011, and Sept. 30, 2012. He pleaded guilty in March.

The victim’s therapist also testified during the hearing that she diagnosed the girl with post-traumatic stress disorder. The victim read a statement in which she called Brigner a “monster.”

The victim’s father also spoke in court, saying “I ask God to forgive you, because I never will.”

Brigner apologized to the family in court.
