National Fuel gas-supply charges to rise for Pa. customers

National Fuel Gas Distribution Corp. announced a 7.3 percent increase to gas-supply charges for its Pennsylvania customers, reflecting a spike in the market price of natural gas.

Effective today, the monthly bill of a typical residential customer using 90,000 cubic feet of gas annually will rise $5.55, from $75.84 to $81.39.

“This increase is directly related to the increase in the market price of gas and reflects the cost of gas that has been, and will be, purchased by the company for its customers,” Sandra James, spokeswoman for Natural Fuel, said in a statement today.

“The prolonged, colder-than-normal winter resulted in increased demand for natural gas to heat homes and businesses,” which, in turn, caused the market price to rise, she said.
