Council OKs pipeline

City council approved allowing Halcon to install a pipeline through Girard property near the lakes.

The lawmakers approved an ordinance authorizing the city-services director to enter into a pipeline right-of-way agreement with Halcon. The city will receive $150,500 for the right of way.

Council passed the legislation 5-2 at its meeting Monday. Voting against the proposal were Councilmen John Moliterno and Larry Steiner, said Mayor Jim Melfi.

Halcon’s proposal includes a 40-foot easement on city property.

The pipeline, which will transmit gas from Halcon well fields north of the city, would run 14 miles from Vienna to the company’s fuel depot near rail lines in Lordstown. In Girard, the line would run west of the lower lake.

The line will not run under the lake, which is dry, and should not affect any plans to refill it, Councilman Joe Shelby has said.
