Fire crews responded to the apartment complex, 3531 Hillman Ave., about 5 p.m. Saturday. Residents of the second floor, where the fire began, were evacuated from the building, but let back inside once the fire was extinguished.

Boil alert issued for Austintown, Canfield

AUSTINTOWN

Many residents of Austintown and Canfield townships were without water for almost two hours Sunday and remained under a boil advisory Sunday night.

Harry Johnson III, Youngstown’s water commissioner, told The Vindicator’s broadcast partner, 21 WFMJ-TV, there was a problem at the Webb Road pump station and that a backup generator failed to kick on, causing the outage, which affected homes and businesses, about 7 p.m. Sunday.

Johnson said the system was working again at 8:30 p.m. Sunday, and it was back to full pressure about an hour later. Water customers in Austintown and Canfield should boil their water for at least one minute until further notice.
