YOUNGSTOWN

Greater Friendship Missionary Baptist Church, 646 Lakewood Ave., will celebrate “Overwhelming Love” for the fourth anniversary of Pastor James C. Bowie on Sunday.

Guest speaker for the 10:30 a.m. service will be Bishop Designate Kenneth Paramore, Christ Center Church, and Pastor Michael H. Harrison of Union Baptist Church at 3:30 p.m.

Dinner will be served at 2 p.m. with Frances Curd and Elder Rosetta Carter as chairwomen.

Honoring Mary

YOUNGSTOWN

A Night to Honor Mary is planned at 7 p.m. Friday at St. Columba Cathedral, 154 W. Wood St., and at 7 p.m. May 9 at St. Michael the Archangel Parish in Canton.

Bishop George V. Murry will preside at both devotional services.

The diocesan Youth Choir will participate at St. Columba.

The services will include Scripture readings, a homily, hymns and the rosary.

Ken Johnson, chaplain with the Indianapolis Colts and an inspirational speaker, will be featured at a service at 7 p.m. May 6 at Poland United Methodist Church, 1940 Boardman-Poland Road.

Elizabeth Missionary Baptist Church, 1210 Himrod Ave., will mark its 92nd anniversary Sunday. Pastor Curtis Minter and Shiloh Baptist Church of Akron will be at the 10:30 a.m. service and Pastor T. James Harrison and Valley Baptist Church in Farrell, Pa., at 3:30 p.m.

Training seminar

HERMITAGE, PA.

A Group Crisis Intervention (Group Critical Incident Stress Management) training seminar for chaplains, clergy, first-responders and mental-health professionals will take place May 19-20 at Hermitage Fire Station 3. Sponsors are Hermitage Volunteer Fire Department, Hermitage Police Department, EMMCO West and St. Paul’s United Church of Christ.

“A Graduation Worship Experience” is planned at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at Elizabeth Missionary Baptist Church, 7 S. Garland Ave.

The Rev. Kenneth Simon, pastor of New Bethel Baptist Church, will give the message.

The music ministry will be provided by the Emancipation Choir led by Elder Luke Shumpert.

Speaker will be Pastor Raymond Mason of Alpha and Omega Baptist Church.

Polka Mass set

St. Joseph the Provider School will host a polka Mass at 10:30 a.m. May 4 at St. Anthony of Padua Church, 1125 Turin Ave.

Celebrant will be the Rev. Michael Swierz, and liturgical polka music will be performed by the Jack Vasko Band. A stuffed cabbage dinner will follow Mass. Cost is $10.
