“Rodgers and Hammerstein’s State Fair,SDRq New Castle Playhouse, 202 E. Long Ave., New Castle, Pa., auditions 6 to 8 p.m. Monday and Tuesday. Actors must be prepared to sing a vocal selection. Provide sheet music for an available accompanist, use an accompaniment CD with no vocal track, or sing a cappella. The show provides a glimpse into the life of the farming Frake family and their three-day adventure at the Iowa State Fair in 1946, as parents Abel and Melissa hope to win a few blue ribbons, and siblings Margy and Wayne are interested primarily in finding romance on the midway. Performances will be July 25-Aug. 3; the first weekend’s shows will be Friday-Sunday, and second weekend shows will be Thursday-Sunday. “Bare,SDRq a contemporary rock musical by Damon Intrabartolo and Jon Hartmere Jr and directed by Liz Rubino, Oakland Center for the Arts, 220 W. Boardman St., Youngstown. Auditions are 7:30 p.m. May 5 and 6. Performances will be July 17-25. “Bare” follows a group of teens wrestling with issues of identity, sexuality and religion at a co-ed Catholic boarding school. Provocative, raw and unyielding in its exploration of how today’s generation navigates the tightrope between adolescence and adulthood. Auditioners must be between 16 (with a parental consent form) and 25 (able to play 17). There are also several adult roles. Auditioners must prepare one minute of song in the style of the show (must have sheet music) and be prepared to read cold from the script. Come prepared to move. Contact coaching@lizrubino.com.

“Songs by Sondheim” musical revue, directed by Anthony Ruggiero, Area Community Theatre of Sharpsville, Pierce Opera House, 100 N. Mercer Ave., Sharpsville, Pa., auditions 2 to 4 p.m. May 18 and 7 to 9 p.m. May 20. Sondheim’s most-popular musicals include “Into the Woods,” “A Little Night Music,” “Company,” “A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum,” “Follies,” “Assassins,” “Sunday in the Park with George” and “Sweeney Todd.” Those auditioning can sing a Sondheim song or something else, and it can be a solo or a duet. What auditionees sing in their audition is not necessarily what they will perform in the show if they are chosen. There will be several group numbers in the show. Auditions are open to high school students and adults. Rehearsals for the review will begin in July. Performances will be Sept. 4, 6 and 7; there is no Friday performance.
