Three Boardman kids found living in deplorable conditions

Three children were placed with their grandmother after police discovered deplorable living conditions in their Shadyside Drive home.

The grandmother called police on Tuesday to report that her grandchildren were living in deplorable conditions without any supervision, according to a police report.

When police went to the home they discovered stained, ripped and dirty carpet, no running water in the house, raw sewage backing up into the basement, no food in the house and dirty clothes strewn throughout the house.

The children ages 12, 11 and 9, told police their mother went to the hospital on Monday, so they stayed at a friend's house. Their mother was still not home when they came home from school.

A representative from Mahoning County Children Services was called and started a referral for the children. The grandmother was advised to follow up with Children Services.
