Teacher meets goal

Teacher meets goal

MECCA

David Deeters, a teacher and coach in the Maplewood School District, raised $2,039 through the Organization for Autism Research Run for Autism and his run in the Boston Marathon on Monday. That means Deeter reached his goal of $2,000.

“I decided to dedicate my race to my three lovely daughters,” Deeters said, including his middle child, Saleen, who has autism.

All three girls have experienced difficult moments as a result of the way people sometimes misunderstand Saleen’s quirks, Deeters said. One of his goals was to raise awareness of autism, which he did through several news-media interviews leading up to the race. Gun, pills in vehicle

CAMPBELL

Police arrested a 19-year-old Youngstown man during a Monday traffic stop after police found a loaded gun and unlabeled pills on him.

Denzel N. Case, of Colby Avenue, is charged with carrying concealed weapons, a fourth-degree felony, and for failing to have a prescription label. He also was cited for loud and disturbing noises coming from the car and for the several objects that were hanging from his rear view mirror.

Police stopped Case at 6:13 p.m. for the traffic offenses. Case consented to a search of his car, and police then discovered the .40-caliber handgun with 10 rounds. They also found 11 pills in his pockets.
